*Refugee Transition Specialist & Community Resources Developer (AmeriCorps
VISTA)*
The mission of the JFS Refugee and Immigrant Service Centers is to reach out to
those fleeing from countries ravaged by war and religious, political or economic
persecution and support a successful transition to King County. Over the past
decade, our refugee resettlement caseworkers have provided pivotal support to
over 3,500 refugees. Financial assistance, information and referral, English as
a Second Language and citizenship classes, job placement – we help new Americans
become fully integrated members of our community.
We are hiring for *two positions* through the AmeriCorps VISTA program that will
begin *August 10, 2009* *(training for the positions starts on August 4^th )*.

*Refugee Transition Specialist*:
Member Duties : The Refugee Transition Specialist will provide support to
refugee clients in transition to life in U.S. Duties include creating and
leading acculturation workshops and employment trainings. Workshops and
trainings will focus on job-readiness skills and introduction to American
culture. This position will work in conjunction with other staff to ready
refugee clients for employment. Good communication and documentation skills
required. Creativity and flexibility a plus! Some transportation will be
necessary, so reliable transportation is essential.

Terms : Requires full time service without outside commitments. Bachelor’s
degree required.

participants a monthly living allowance of $875.00, medical benefits, childcare

*Community Resources Developer*:
Member Duties : The Community Resources Developer (CRD) will manage the growing
volunteer and donation needs for JFS Resettlement program. The CRD will increase
program capacity, building on existing program structures through outreach and
recruitment. Primary duties will include: volunteer and donor recruitment
through community events, partnerships, and outreach activities; volunteer
orientation, coordination, and supervision; donation coordination, pick-up, and
delivery to new refugee arrivals; development of systems for tracking volunteer
and donation programs; and coordination with ESL instructors to determine
volunteer needs and placement in ESL classes. Good communication and
documentation skills required. Creativity and flexibility a plus! Some travel
will be required, so reliable transportation is necessary
