GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Youth Life Coach with Spark T.H.I.S. [Truth Hope Involvement Success] will provide a broad range of human services to middle school aged youth, parents and guardians, including group facilitation, curriculum revision and case management to support the program’s goal and agency’s mission. This position works collaboratively with the Renton School District, various community partners and staff of the organization. This is a full time, 35 hour per week position, with benefits.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide case management services, including outreach, resource referral and other school or home based services to youth participants and their families.
  • Conduct curriculum based group facilitation and activities within middle school settings. (Three boys groups and one girls group).
  • Provide individual mentoring and follow up services to program participants and their families.
  • Advocate for the psycho/social needs of program participants and their parents/guardians.
  • Consult with youth, families, schools and /or community contacts to effectively monitor participant’s progress.
  • Participate in agency and Family Center staff meetings and other meetings pertinent to project participants.
  • Collect and maintain outcome data for project and client files. Provide report data as needed.
  • Initiate and supervise youth participants in after school or out of school time volunteer activities.
  • Assist with program/ curriculum revision to reflect emerging community issues and current youth culture.
  • Take on the role of a task-supervisor for university student interns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication, interpersonal relations, teamwork and curriculum development and implementation.
  • Demonstrated success in working with youth at risk, particularly in a group setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with youth, parents, schools and general community.
  • AA degree in human services, psychology, education or related field. BA degree preferred.
  • Strong ability to interact effectively with diverse groups.
  • Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor.
  • Washington State Drivers License and proof of insurance.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 2 years experience in youth development work.
  • Experience working in a non-profit human services setting.
  • Experience with outcome based evaluation.
  • Experience with home visiting, parent/guardian engagement.
  • Applicants who are bi-lingual, English and Spanish desirable.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES

Work is performed in an office setting at the agency’s Family Center site and at various schools within the Renton School District. Some travel to off site locations is required. The Youth Life Coach must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Hand eye coordination and fine manipulation skills are necessary to operate computers and office machinery.
