Police Cadet Program

The University of Washington Police Department is in search of current full time students who are interested in the field of law enforcement. This program is designed as an internship for students who are willing to participate in the program throughout the academic year.

Cadets will work with police professionals who provide training and direction in the law enforcement field. Cadets will receive training in radio procedures, traffic/crowd control, ethics, patrol procedures, traffic stops, criminal law, crime scene investigation, handcuffing procedures, defensive tactics, first aid/CPR and more.

Along with training, cadets will participate in ride-alongs with police officers, assist with special events and conduct foot patrols of the campus to assist in keeping our community safe.

Cadets may receive credit for participation in the program through the Sociology Department or UW’s Carlson Center, General Studies 350, with the number of credits determined by each department. Cadets also have the option of joining the program without credit and/or staying in the program after receiving credits.


  • Must be a full time student at the University of Washington Seattle Campus.
  • Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above.
  • Successfully pass a background investigation and take a physical agility test.
  • Have no criminal convictions.
  • Abide by federal, state, and local laws.
  • Be available to volunteer a minimum of 18hrs a month to the program.
  • Must conduct themselves as representatives of the law enforcement community.
