Commissions seeking young applicants

Application Open: City searching for Young Adults
Ages 18-29 to Serve on Boards and Commissions
Application Deadline: May 14, 2013 @ 5:00pm

SEATTLE – The Metrocenter YMCA and City of Seattle would like to announce that
the online application is currently open for the 2013-2014 Get Engaged program.
Started in 2001, Get Engaged is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of
leaders and advocating for the influence of young voices in city affairs. Applicants
are not expected to have prior experience serving on a board. We will place one
emerging leader aged 18-29 on each of the participating 15 City of Seattle Boards
and Commissions for the upcoming September 2013-August 2014 term (also listed below).

In addition to being officially appointed to year-long terms as voting commissioners, participants receive training on board skills and the workings of city government and form a peer group with other leadership development program participants. The Get Engaged program provides a chance for young people in Seattle to develop skills as emerging engaged leaders, participate in the public decision-making process, increase youth civic engagement, and help shape policy decisions.
