Communities In Schools of Washington is now recruiting 20 FT members for the 13/14 academic year. Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization. The mission of CIS is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Through school-based coordination, CIS connects students and their families to critical community resources, tailored to local needs. By bringing community resources into the schools to address children’s unmet needs we provide the link between educators and the community. Children cannot learn at their potential when they are in crisis or face significant non-academic needs. These are the kids who are most likely to fall behind and once behind, often drop out. We work closely with local school districts, social service organizations and businesses to connect schools with the resources that facilitate academic success and the development of important life skills. CIS makes a difference for children in the schools it serves. AmeriCorps members will serve as Site Coordinators in elementary, middle and high schools throughout Washington State. Members will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the CIS model of integrated student service delivery in designated schools sites. The member will work with community partners and volunteers to marshal resources necessary to address the social and emotional needs of students who are at risk of dropping out of school. Through the coordination of individual and group interventions as well as prevention activities the Site Coordinator is a key player in helping students stay in school and remain on track to graduate. Service Site Locations: Auburn, Federal Way, Kent, Lakewood, Orting, KeyPeninsula (Vaughn), Puyallup. Renton, Seattle, Spokane County, and Whatcom County
