Hourly Position with The Graduate School

HOURLY STUDENT POSITION AVAILABLE

(undergraduate or graduate)

 The Graduate School seeks an hourly student assistant (undergraduate or graduate) to assist with administrative support. This will include reception duties and answering telephones over the lunch period (e.g.,noon-1 pm) and miscellaneous office work which may include:  archiving files, proofreading, entering data in databases, copying, updating files, making labels, assembling notebook materials, summarizing post-event evaluations, running errands on campus, preparing mass mailings, etc. In addition, the student may be called upon to assist at events as needed.  Depending on capabilities, some higher level duties (e.g., researching, writing or editing) may be assigned. The assistant will report to the Assistant to the Dean but will support several administrative offices in the Graduate School.

 Work hours are expected to be approximately four hours daily. Schedule flexibility based on the student’s academic needs will be accommodated, but s/he will be expected to work the maximum allowable 19.5 hours a week during the academic year (more hours are available during the summer if desired). This position is available starting August 19.

 Note:  This position is not a Graduate Staff Assistantship, and therefore isnot eligible for a tuition waiver or health benefits.  Priority consideration will be given to applicants who are already in Seattle/WA state; are able to start immediately; and are able to work at least through June 2014.

 Skills: Candidate must work well with people, be resourceful and reliable, and be able to remain calm under occasionally hectic conditions (e.g., busy phones/office).  We are particularly looking for individuals with confident communications skills, and who are articulate and possess excellent telephone and customer service skills. Other desired skills include familiarity with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel, and other UW administrative systems. Confident oral and writing capabilities will be considered favorably.

 Special Restrictions: The person accepting this position will share a workspace with a co-worker with chemical sensitivities and allergies, so the use of perfumes or scented body lotions must be avoided.

 The starting salary for the position will be $12 per hour.  Increases may be available in the future based on progression of skills and capabilities.
