Position Description Benefits Supplemental Questions

The Mayor’s Office is seeking for four (4) summer interns to work with both external and internal audiences to develop and execute community relations activities such as:

*  Develop relationships with the community
*  Identify and staff community events
*  Plan and execute events and activities
*  Assist in everyday office tasks
*  Help to inform and to distribute communications and outreach materials

Educational benefit to the student:

*  Gain experience drafting and implementing communications and public engagement strategies
*  Develop writing and editing skills
*  Learn to craft and implement strategies to improve internal and external stakeholder engagement
*  Gain a broader understanding of city government

Job Responsibilities:

*  Community Outreach and Engagement
*  Office / Admin Tasks
*  Event Staffing & Implementation
*  Internal Meetings & Communications


Education: Open to full-time undergraduate students studying Communication, Human Resources, Public Relations, Public Administration, Sociology or closely related fields. Students must have and maintain a 2.0 GPA throughout the internship. Summer enrollment isn’t required, but proof of continuing student in the Fall will be required.

Experience: Ability to successfully multi-task. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work well with others. Willingness to work some evenings and weekends. Proficient computer skills/telephone skills.

Additional Information:

Desired Qualifications: Experience in leadership positions or project management. Experience working with
diverse communities.

Hours: approximately 20 hours per week. Hours will be scheduled between 8:00 am – 5:00 pm M-F, with occasional evening and weekend work.

Start/End dates: This internship will begin in late June and end in late August 2014
