Woodrow Wilson-Rockefeller Brothers Fund Fellowship Nominations, Due October 10, 2014

The Woodrow Wilson-Rockefeller Brothers Fund Fellowships for Aspiring Teachers of Color seeks to help recruit, support, and retain individuals of color as public school teachers in the United States.

Eligible students must be Self-Identified person of color;
·         U.S. Citizen; Expected to have a Bachelor’s degree by June 30, 2015;
·         Have substantial Background in the arts and sciences and high academic performance with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better; and
·         Not currently in a Teacher Prep Program.

The Fellowship includes:
·         a $30,000 stipend to apply toward the cost of a master’s degree at a participating graduate program,
·         preparation in a high-need public school,
·         support and mentoring throughout the three-year teaching commitment,
·         guidance toward teaching certification, and
·         lifelong membership in a national network of Woodrow Wilson Fellows who are intellectual leaders

The UW had three UW Nominees selected as fellows – 2010-Emily Lee-English Major, 2011-Dustin Dacuan-English major and 2012-Melanya Materne-Mathematic major.   There was an interruption in 2013 and this will be the last application process for this program.

The UW can only nominate two UW students.  As a result, there is a campus nomination process to identify the students we will forward on for this fellowship.  Students nominated will have about two week to get material ready to meet the national deadline we will try to expedite the nomination application process to give strong applicants a chance to get information to us quickly.
