SOCIOLOGY IN ROME, SPRING 2015 – A Few Spots Still Available!

“Christianity in Rome: Church vs. Empire, Church as Empire”

This is a quarter-long program focusing on the transformation of Christianity from its origins as a marginal, outlaw movement to the most powerful and influential institution in western civilization and beyond. We’ll look at how everything changed when Christianity was legalized and became the religion of Empire. It’s a fascinating story, and we’ll study it in the very place where much of it happened! Students will also gain insight into present-day Rome as they do service learning in a refugee center serving some of the most marginalized people in Rome. No prerequisites, and all majors are welcome to apply. Contact program director Dr. Susan Pitchford: pitch@uw.edu.
