Big Data to Help Homelessness: Topic of UW, City of Seattle Event Jan. 17

An event took place on Tuesday, January 17th that focused on using big data to address human services, such as health, foster care, and homelessness. Representatives from Microsoft, the City of Chicago, and several academic institutions met to discuss how data science might be used to support more useful and efficient human services in an urban environment.

Over the next year, MetroLab members will create solutions in four key areas (“labs”): water and green infrastructure, sensors, traffic and transportation, and big data and human services. The Seattle-UW partnership is one of the founding members of MetroLab. It will be focusing on transportation and homelessness issues.
