Happy Week 2!

rainycampus_4Good morning, fellow sociologists! Welcome to Week 2 of the quarter! We hope you’re all settled into your routines, getting comfortable with classes, and staying dry as the rainy season begins. There are a few important announcements we want to bring to your attention:

Study Abroad in Rome – Information Sessions (03, 23 October; 09 November)

Want to spend Spring 2019 in Italy? Then the Sociology Department’s Rome study abroad program might be right for you! Learn about how the rise of the Christian church during the Roman Empire shaped the development of European society and culture – historically and in the modern day – all while enjoying the remarkable sights and sounds (and pastas) that Italy has to offer. For more information, please join us at one of our 3 upcoming information sessions, all in 245 Savery Hall:

  • Wednesday, 03 October at 4:00pm – TOMORROW
  • Tuesday, October 23rd at 1:00
  • Friday, November 9th at 12:30

New Major Applications – Deadline is Friday, 05 October 2018, 4:00pm

Not yet a Sociology major??? The deadline to submit your application to join the major is this Friday, 05 October, by 4pm! Make sure you have dotted all your Is  and crossed all your Ts – and that you stop by the Advising Office in 203 Savery Hall to drop off your application to join the greatest department on campus (trust us – we’re social scientists).

Featured Graduate Spotlight

We are adding a new feature to the blog this year where we introduce our current majors to graduates from the department. If you’re interested in discovering the best parts of the program, how to make the most out of your time in the major, and what to do when you’re facing that scary thing that happens after graduation (the “real” world? As a graduate student, I wouldn’t really know what that is…), these Featured Graduate Spotlights are perfect for you. Our first spotlight will feature Maggie Yuse, a 2015 alumna – and we’ll have many more over the 2018/2019 year!

That’s all for now! Stay dry, stay warm, and, as always, stay sociological!
