Welcome to the Post-Daylight Savings Time part of the quarter, when sunrise takes place around noon and sunset approximately 17 minutes later.* As you make your way through the darkness, we wanted to spotlight (HA – pun) a few posts from last week, as well as remind you about important campus events this week

  • Course Previews. Need some guidance picking courses? Take a look at some of the courses we’ve highlighted, as well as the full Sociology Department time schedule. And if you need more one-on-one guidance, make an appointment to meet with one of our fabulous advisors, Susanna Hansson or Maura Nakamichi!
  • Be The Match. The wonderful event is finally here – in fact, it’s TONIGHT! Join The Whole U and expert panelists, including our own Prof. Alexes Harris, in exploring the role race plays in medicine and the essential need for multiethnic donors and donors of color worldwide. The event include a free screening of Mixed Match, followed by a panel discussion. November 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the HUB South Ballroom. For more information, see our blog post or visit the Be The Match event website. Register for the event here.
  • Study Abroad Week. The Study Abroad Office is hosting a series of events THIS WEEK to provide an opportunity for students to explore international study and internship opportunities, learn about funding options, and connect with study abroad alumni. Events include a Study Abroad Mixer (Tuesday, 06 Nov), “Remixing Your Reality” with Blake Brandes (Wednesday, 07 Nov), and the Study Abroad Fair (Thursday, 08 November).  For more information, see our blog post or visit the Study Abroad Office’s website.
  • Sociology in Italy. The Sociology Department has a special 1-quarter study abroad program in Rome. If you’d like to learn more, Prof. Susan Pitchford will host an information session this Friday, 09 November, 12:30pm-1:30pm, in Savery 245. For more information, see our blog post or visit the program website.

Wishing you all a great week! Remember – keep your flashlights and headlamps at the ready!
