As you begin to settle into the quarter, we in the Advising Office would like to invite all of our majors to consider applying to the Sociology Honors Program.
The Sociology Honors Program is a year-long academically rigorous program, designed for students who want closer intellectual contact with faculty, as well as students who are interested in graduate work in Sociology or related professional fields.
The Sociology Honors Program is small by design to maximize the guidance and mentorship the Department can provide to you as emerging scholars. Our Honors curriculum trains students to design and execute their own research through small seminars, independent study, and allows students the opportunity to include graduate level coursework as part of the honors experience.
We encourage you to apply if you meet the requirements below, plan to graduate in Spring or Summer 2020, and want to engage in a demanding year-long program concluding with the completion of an Honors Thesis.
Applying to the Honors Program
Applications for the 2019-2020 Honors Program will be posted during Winter quarter, the application will be due Friday, April 12, 2019.
A complete application will include the application form, a statement of purpose, a writing sample, and an unofficial transcript.
- Acceptance to the Sociology major

- Minimum cumulative UW GPA of 3.30
NOTE: Virtually all successful applicants have completed SOC 221 (or one of the other permitted statistics options) and SOC 316 prior to starting Honors.
We encourage interested students to read more about the program on the program’s website or by reviewing the Honors Program Guide. Sociology’s advising staff is always happy to meet with interested students in person to discuss program requirements and answer additional questions.
