Interested in spending Winter Quarter 2020 traveling and learning in Italy, earning 15 SOC credits along the way? Attend our info session on Wednesday, 08 May 2019 to find out more!
It’s time to apply for the Sociology Department’s annual Study Abroad trip to Italy! This quarter long program, led by Prof. Steven Pfaff, provides a general introduction to the culture, politics, and economy of Italy using a combination of lectures and site visits in Rome, and visits to Venice, Florence, and Naples.
The goal of this program is to enhance student understanding of contemporary Italy using the tools of sociological and economic theory. Italy is a model case for understanding how a rich, and in many ways conservative society faces the many challenges of our global era, with a focus on contemporary challenges in Italian politics, economics, and cultures. The three core courses that structure the program provide students with a critical perspective on these issues to help students understand a society and polity wrestling with the challenges of globalization
