With the 2020 Census coming up, the United Way’s Census and Benefits Navigators will serve as a resource for community members to get information and help while completing their 2020 Census Questionnaires.
In addition to preparing taxes, United Way’s Free Tax Preparation Campaign helps connect individuals and families to savings opportunities and public benefits they may not have known were available. This year, volunteers will also help ensure clients are prepared to accurately and confidently complete their 2020 Census Questionnaire.
This is an exciting and hugely important role that will help guarantee an accurate representation of our communities, particularly already marginalized populations, such as immigrant communities and communities of color. An accurate count and representation will help ensure that critical public resources remain available for those who rely on them most.
Volunteers can pick from 33 tax sites throughout King County (there’s bound to be a site conveniently located near your home, work, or school). Volunteers develop practical skills, network with the community, and most importantly, make a huge, tangible impact.
The volunteer commitment is 3-4 hours per week from January to April. The United Way provides free, comprehensive training. To get more information and register, visit www.uwkc.org/taxvolunteer.
