Interested in gaining literacy and fluency in data science methods? Want to understand their implications for society and the world?
Sounds like you would love the new Data Science Minor at UW. This minor helps students leverage familiarity with data science in fields outside of data science, and gain skills and fluency to work with data in their major domain of study. The minor is intended for students majoring in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities, where their major does not include a Data Science option. Sociology majors, that means you! Sociology professor Dr. Zack Almquist is on the steering committee for this minor and so could be a good person to reach out to if you have questions.
Check out the Data Science Minor webpage for more information about the goals of the program, classes being offered winter quarter, and requirements for applying to the minor.
Also, Save the Date! The launch event for the new minor will be Thursday, November 19th from 10am – 12pm. The event will showcase student and faculty research, and some of the exciting new courses being developed for the minor. There will also be a panel discussion on career options. Plan on attending to learn the basics of the minor and get your questions answered!
